Calling all Girl Scouts! Come join us for a weekend of fun at Douthat State Park while attending programs that will help you work toward various badges. Not a girl scout, but still want to have fun? No worries – all programs are open to the general public too!

Friday, September 11:
3:00p.m. Feeding Time: Come learn about our animal ambassadors, their husbandry, and help us give them a bite to eat. Meet at the Park Office. This program helps Girl Scouts work towards the Voices for Animals badge.

5:00p.m. Salamander Meander: Let’s meander down to the creek and go on a hunt for salamanders. Meet at the Discovery Center. This activity helps Girl Scouts work towards the Animal Habitats badge.

8:30p.m. Leave No Trace Campfire: Wrap up the evening stories, s’mores, and Leave No Trace tips by the lake. Meet at the Beach Amphitheater. This activity helps Girl Scouts work towards the Eco Camper badge.

Saturday, September 12:
11:30 – Hiking 101: Learn how to prepare for a hike, stay safe on the trail, and read maps and blazes. We’ll finish with a short, guided hike to put your new skills into action. Meet at the Beach Amphitheater. This activity helps Girl Scouts work towards the Hiker badge.

1:00 – Insect Detectives: Let’s uncover the hidden secrets of insects, learn about their unique life cycles and discover why they are so crucial to our ecosystems, before embarking on a bug hunt. Meet at the Beach Amphitheater. This activity helps Girl Scouts work towards the Bugs badge.

3:00 – Fish Printing: Discover how to tell a trout from a bass, then make your own fish print art. Meet at the Beach Amphitheater. This creative activity helps Girl Scouts work towards the Outdoor Art badge.

5:00 – Paddle Through Time: Ever wondered what stories Douthat State Park holds? Join us for a scenic paddle as we learn a bit about Douthat’s History and practice paddling safely around the lake. Space is limited so sign up in advance at the main office. Meet at the Boat Dock. This program helps Girl Scouts work towards the Paddling badge.

8:30 – Owl Prowl: Join a ranger to learn about how beneficial owls are to the environment. We’ll try calling the owls closer to hopefully get a good look. Make sure to wear closed-toe shoes. Space is limited so sign up in advance at the main office. Meet at the Camp Store Parking Lot. This program will help Girl Scouts meet requirements for their Cadette Night Owl Badge.
